Revocable Living Trusts

Living Trust Attorney in Sonoma

Serving Sonoma Families Since 2009: Revocable Living Trusts, Fixed-Fee Pricing & Local Expertise

Since 2009, Gullotta Law Group has helped Sonoma families create revocable living trusts that can protect assets, help keep estates out of probate, and reflect each family’s specific goals. Attorney Eric S. Gullotta is a Sonoma native with over 15 years of estate planning experience. Our team works collaboratively with every client rather than handing down a one-size-fits-all plan, and we invite questions at every step. Complimentary consultations are available, and all services are offered at fixed fees so you know the cost before any work begins.

We assist with trust drafting, funding guidance, and ongoing modifications as your life changes. Meetings are available in person or virtually, whichever works best for you.

What Is a Revocable Living Trust?

A revocable living trust is a legal arrangement in which you (the grantor) transfer ownership of assets to a trust managed by a trustee for named beneficiaries. During your lifetime, you typically serve as your own trustee, keeping full control over your assets. You can amend or revoke the trust at any time while you have legal capacity, so nothing is set in stone until you decide it is.

The key practical difference between a trust and a will is what happens at death. A will must pass through California probate, becoming a public record in the process. A properly funded revocable living trust can allow assets to bypass probate and transfer to your beneficiaries privately, without court involvement. Because the IRS treats a revocable living trust as a grantor trust during your lifetime, no separate federal tax return is required: Trust income is simply reported on your personal return.

Why Sonoma Homeowners & Families Use Revocable Living Trusts

California probate can take a year or more to complete and carries statutory fees for both the attorney and the personal representative handling the estate. A funded revocable living trust can help assets held within it bypass that process. Because trust terms are generally not filed with a court, your distribution decisions can remain private.

The trust also handles situations you may not be thinking about yet. If you become incapacitated, your named successor trustee can step in to manage trust assets without requiring a court-appointed conservatorship. You keep full flexibility during your lifetime: You can sell trust assets, change beneficiaries, replace the successor trustee, or dissolve the trust entirely. For anyone who owns real property in California, a revocable living trust can be one of the most direct ways to help property transfer cleanly without going through probate.

Protecting what you’ve built doesn’t have to be complicated. Call (707) 379-7590 to speak with our living trust attorneys, or connect with us online. We offer fixed-fee pricing and flexible scheduling, including virtual meetings.

Integrated Tax Planning for Revocable Trusts

A revocable living trust alone does not reduce estate taxes. When a taxable estate is large enough that tax exposure matters, the trust needs to work alongside additional planning instruments, such as irrevocable trusts or structured gifting strategies. That broader coordination is where our team’s composition becomes relevant.

Gullotta Law Group includes a certified public accountant with a master’s degree in taxation. Our team stays current on estate and gift tax laws and can identify and work to minimize potential tax liabilities as part of your trust planning. For Sonoma clients with high-net-worth estates, having legal and tax guidance under one roof can reduce the back-and-forth that comes with coordinating separate attorneys and accountants, and helps ensure your trust fits within a plan that addresses the full picture.
